Our story
Built one file at a time
The practice opened in 1960 with Alfredo Gonçalves's father and passed from one generation to the next without ever changing its name. Today the responsible licensed broker is Vítor Silva Ferreira, and the firm is still F. Alfredo Gonçalves.
Over these decades we have seen Portugal join the single market, customs declarations move from paper to electronic filing, and the Union Customs Code arrive. Almost everything about the way we work has changed.
What has not changed is the essential: customs still demands documentary rigour and someone professionally answerable for the declaration. We look after the importer bringing in one container a year just as carefully as companies running weekly operations across several ports.
How we work
Three commitments we do not negotiate
Saying what needs to be heard
If the operation is badly structured, we say so before filing. We prefer a difficult conversation to an additional assessment two years later.
Explaining the invoice
Duties, VAT, charges and fees appear separately and explained. You should never be in doubt about what you are paying and to whom.
Being there
Held cargo does not wait. Within office hours we answer straight away and, in genuinely urgent cases, outside them too.
